Phase I of this two phase project requires the design of a new corporate headquarters for Earl Industries, a ship repair, manufacturing, and protective coatings company on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia. Outdoor public space bridges the facility with a neighboring marina. The proposed Schematic Design suggests conventional steel framing, curtain wall, and a prestressed concrete pile foundation system, fifty feet from the river’s edge. The project commenced with program development followed by Schematic Design Concepts and Budget Estimating. The multi-use building is planned to house corporate offices as well as a cafe, retail functions for the marina, a fitness center, and corporate training space. Project completion is expected in 2006.
